President's Message—March 2007
by Dawn Adams Miller
The “tradition” as far as President’s Messages goes is to tie into the program presented at the chapter meeting. I’ve been struggling how to do that as the topic covered, Intentional Leadership, is not my forte. I’m more into the technology side of training both in my professional experience and in my delivery inclinations.
So, I have decided to break with tradition and talk about something completely different. You ready?
ICE. Yep, that’s right, ICE. What a “cool” thing to talk about huh? Sorry, had to pun there!
Actually, I’m talking about the ASTD International Conference & Exposition. This year this outstanding conference is going to be right in our backyard. OK, so maybe not so right in our back yard but darn close. Atlanta! Just down the road! What a great opportunity to maximize your professional development experience and minimize your travel time and costs.
In early June at the World Congress Center, ASTD will hold 6 jam packed days of professional development mania! There are certificate programs, pre-conferences workshops, leading business book author keynotes, over 300 exhibitors, hundreds of break-out sessions and 11 tracks of content.
And, ASTD is offering a break on the price too! There’s a price break if you’re a National member of course and there’s a price break for five or more from the same company. And, Amy, our fearless chapter admin is offering to be the virtual “ride board” of there are folks from our chapter going to ICE and who want to share a ride. If you’re interested in that, contact Amy.
I hope that everyone that can gets to experience an ICE conference at least once. There are thousands of attendees from all over the world, the networking alone is worth the time and expense but above all, the learning opportunities are top notch. The speakers are world-class and are carefully vetted by the speaker selection team. There will be very few duds and even less selling from the podium.
Please consider this great opportunity and if you go, let us know how it went and what you learned. Contact me personally and we’ll share your info and experience with the chapter.
Happy conferencing!
